BOOKS
You can sell your books at Half Price books, but did you know some
used bookstores will give you books in trade? Trade the old
for new! Also, see if your local high school is interested in
any of your fiction or non-fiction tomes.
CELL PHONES
Our favorite option is
The Wireless Foundation because they reuse your old phone to
provide phones to survivors of domestic violence. There are
many drop-off locations in the Dallas area, or you can organize your
own round-up!
CLOTHING
The Dallas area has a smorgasbord of clothing donation charities and
centers. Add to that the option of consignment stores and
eBay, and it's enough to make you excited to clean out your closet!

EYEGLASSES
Plastic frames cannot be tossed in the recycle bin but metal ones
can be put in the scrap metal bin. But before recycling, be sure to
check out this website that accepts donated glasses and distributes
them to people who cannot afford to buy glasses:
www.neweyesfortheneedy.com. This includes sunglasses and plastic
frames that are in good condition. Or drop off old pairs of glasses
at Lenscrafters, Target Optical or other participating stores and
doctors’ offices and they will send them to
www.givethegiftofsight.org. |
COMPUTERS, ELECTRONICS and all the STUFF that goes in them -
BATTERIES, CD'S, etc.
Most of the major computer and electronic stores now offer recycling
programs, which vary by store. Rule of thumb - ask before you
buy, and shop from the stores that help you recycle! A few of the
major retailers in the area that have recycling programs:
Target, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's,
Radio Shack, Sears, and Staples.
AEROSOL CANS can usually be recycled with other cans – just pull off
the plastic cap and empty the canister completely.
PAINT and other household chemicals. Dallas residents have two
options for home chemical waste disposal: drop-off service at the
Home Chemical Collection Center (HC3) or any Home Chemical
Collection event provided by the Dallas Area Household Hazardous
Waste Network. Both services are free to Dallas residents.
Please bring a driver's license and a recent utility bill stub to
prove residency.
